With new materials and procedures, dentistry has evolved from “if it hurts, yank it,” to true preventive medicine.
We can thank fluorides for the terrific rate of cavity-free children, and new anesthetics have made dentistry more comfortable than ever. Sealants, safer X-rays, and space-age plastics have all become commonplace in the course of comprehensive care and aggressive prevention.
Our goal is to be your partner in dental health. We’re convinced you can keep your teeth intact for your entire life. To that end, we offer a range of services to restore your teeth to their full form and function.
Then once we’ve fixed what needs fixing, our prevention program begins in earnest.
We keep watch for periodontal problems—the gum disease that’s often the cause of premature tooth loss. For children, we apply sealants to back teeth particularly prone to cavities. And we are happy to give proper instructions for at-home brushing and flossing.
A good flossing every day really does keep the doctor away. Especially when combined with twice-a-day brushing. Follow this foolproof flossing technique for healthy teeth and gums:
- Wind 12 to 18 inches of floss around your middle fingers—most of it around one finger (the other will collect the used floss).
- With thumbs and forefingers, glide the floss between two teeth.
- Slide the floss gently to the gum line and curve it into a C around one tooth.
- Move it up and down against the side of the tooth; repeat for the other tooth. Remember the backsides of your last molars!
